Michael Jackson and Media Events (self promotion)

This time, a bit of blatant self promotion. Media events have long been a topic of personal interest and, just this month, a short essay I wrote on the death of Michael Jackson as a media event was published in the new peer-reviewed journal: Celebrity Studies. The title of the article is, “The King is dead, long live the King: meditations on media events and Michael Jackson” and considers how the death of Michael Jackson captures how the genre of media events itself is changing. It is up to the reader to decide if media events, as envisioned by Dayan and Katz, are dead.
